keep tohers in bottom of your sleeping bag to warm/dry for the next day. also do not breathe into your sleeping bag to warm it up, it adds moisture.

I do alot of winter backpacking . For me when it's time to bed down, I try not to wear too much clothing. It seems when I would think adding additional layers to my already long johns or insulaters, that I would be warmer? I wasn't. I find using a good sleeping bag rated for the season and wear one layer of clothing ,you are much warmer, letting your body heat escape and letting you bag do what it's supposed too do, retain heat. Also too much clothing on in a bag restricts your comfort (movement) zone in a bag. As bearboy mentioned about breathing inside your bag, Also if you have a Dog with you sometimes when it's extra cold we want to keep our companion warm also and thats okay with a warm trade off, but be sure, not to let your buddy breath inside the bag, you'll loose your goal to retain heat by morning time.
