I spent a year on Amelia Island, Florida...Did quite a bit of hiking around the island...Here's a few haiku poems I wrote during that time:
atlantic breaks white summer blue on horizon white sands of south end
jellyfish on beach baking in afternoon sun careful where i step
sitting on train tracks shrimp festival fireworks explode in night sky
sunset on south end starfish drying in the sand waiting on the tide
lime wedge washed ashore glistening in the evening sun on the south end sands
walking through the streets of downtown fernandina where heaven meets earth

Very nice ! Very creative. Do you have any pictures of this island? I have very little experience Island hiking and wish to start doing some as I age in life in need for warmer climate.

Thank you. I have a few pictures in my yahoo photo album at profiles.yahoo.com/albaugh1976Amelia Island, where I lived, is next door to Cumberland Island. Cumberland, for the vast majority, is protected land. There are wild horses that run the island and they have adapted (so the story goes) to drinking ocean water, as there are few fresh water sources to be found on the island. Cumberland, historically, was the playground of the railroad and oil tycoons of the early 20th century. John Kennedy Jr married Carolyn Bessette in a secret ceremony on Cumberland Island.
