Has anyone removed the waist belt from their pack and gone without? If so, how'd it work out for you?

8-)Tried that. Didn't like it. When I hike , I switch my pack weight by using the belt to transfer weight from my shoulders, and vice versa. I have been Trekking for several hours and release my Belt to give a different feel for the pack, but I always go back to the Belt to stabilize my load. I use a big pack in the winter. A 7000 cubic inch pack and I do carry a load hence I am called the refrigerator, so I need my belt.

I'm glad someone else has a huge pack. The first pack that I bought was an Osprey Mother Load. It's 7000 cu in, maybe even more. Being a beginner, most of my gear came from Walmart so I needed a monster to carry it all. I even bought extra side pockets for the beast. It would weigh 55 lbs loaded back then. But, it's still the best fitting pack that I have and I still use it sometimes. 35 to 40 lbs in it feels like nothing.
Back on the subject. I don't think you would want to do without the waist belt. The weight of your pack should ride on your hips.

Looks like a nice pack. I don't see a weight for it. How much?

It's listed at 4 pounds. However, once you take off the waist pack that covers the top and the built in daypack on the back, the weight starts to drop. Dropped even further when I took off the waist belt. It was just too much padding pushing into my lower back for my liking.
With everything in there plus a lot of crap I don't need, my pack weight is around 30-33 pounds all together. The Greenbrier Trail in March will be the first "real" test. If it feels good for those few days, I'll use it on the AT in April.

That sounds like a great pack. I would have thought that it would have weighed more than that. Good job.

Nice Pack, I went to the web site and this pack is well made with excellent material, Plenty of lashing points too.
Good choice!
