What are your thoughts on lining the inside of your backpack for extra water protection?

I don't use a Pack linner. I do use several of these bags to keep my Clothes and sleeping bag Dry. www.campmor.comItem # 21827 # 21826 OUTDOOR RESEARCH HYDROSEAL #21825 I have several of these bags and they do work. I have been totally submerged with a pack on and dreading when I did get to unpack , the thought of my clothes and sleeping gear. DRY. They work well. These bags also will compress down like a vaccum. I have given thought of a Bag linner in the past but descided if I need to cross a RIVER so deep I would just make a poncho raft. I do use a Pack Cover to protect my pack from elements. I don't see anything wrong with using a linner . If it works for you . Years ago when money was tight I did use plastic bags, and honestly they worked as good as any other.

I think I'll try the old trash bag idea...or maybe a trash compactor bag (I hear they're mighty tough) to line my pack.
