I received an email from my trail partner, Bloodroot...He'll spend a few days in Kuwait and then catch a flight back to the States after one year of playing in the sand. We'll be thru-hiking the Greenbrier River Trail in March followed by an attempt of the Appalachian Trail starting April 10, 2005.
To my WV Brother, CARRY ON!

Blood root/ Is he your brother? Is he in the military? Or civilian? I am a veteran and always recognize anyone who is in the service. Proud of our younger generation who has shown what they are made of, all heroes in my heart.

He's a friend of mine who serves in the WV Army Reserves. He should be signing on to this site fairly soon as quite a few in his bunch are heading back home this month. Here's a trail journal that may be of interest: trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?trailname=2732

The question of brother/civilian reminded me of how many people I've met from WV feel once outside the borders. I've moved around a little in the last five years and there's a unique connection among WVirginians that I haven't found elsewhere (at least where I've been). Example: Two men with ? tags on their cars are pumping gas side by side at a filling station somewhere out of state...not much may happen by way of conversation. Replace those tags with WV tags and that very well could result in the telling of life stories.

That being said, I sure have some great experiences from being out and about in the US at large. Each place has more than one good pull to it. ;D
